Journals > Zines Project

A free FEAST funded project for young people to creatively navigate our way through these times, making zines!

Get in touch

What is the Journals > Zines Project?

Make Zines, be happy! Zines pronounced ‘zeen’ like the end of magazine are diy publications on any subject. Enjoy relaxed 1 hour zoom sessions every Tuesday (5 weeks) July-October 2020 and be part of The Journals and Zines project for young people in Cornwall. In the first session, join artist Karen Howse to make a simple one page Zine using materials you will have to hand in your home. Access tutorials to make stitched zines and more, post your own creations on fb and instagram journalsandzines. This is a free FEAST funded project to creatively navigate our way through these times. Email Karen at: kh.art.projects@gmail.com or go to the J > Z Facebook page https://www.fb.me/journalsandzines

Journals > Zines is a re- ignition project funded by FEAST who support creative community events in Cornwall.

CAREFREE YOUNG PEOPLE

Carefree young people in Cornwall took part in a series of tailored zine making sessions led by artist Karen Howse from the Journals and Zines project. Each session was built around games, and improvisation. The Carefree Young people went on to collaborate on a zine for their 'Lonely but not Alone' conference in October 2020 with tips for others on staying positive and uplifting mental health.

‘I think it is a great thing to keep busy and to use our imagination, because I often find myself defaulting straight to my phone as soon as I've finished my work on a rainy day. It is a great challenge and great fun!’

— Zine Zoomer

" ‘A very fun and absorbing kind of creativity and finished while watching a bit of nonsense TV.’ "

— Zine Zoomer
